AI Inclusion Podcast

In its AI Inclusion podcasts, equality and inclusion charity Diversity UK explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on business, civil society and human interaction. The podcasts also aim to examine how bias occurs in the application of Artificial Intelligence solutions and how to mitigate some of the biases. This is part of a greater awareness campaign to counter the threat of bias in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and for Diversity UK to meet its aim to inform and educate the public about equality and inclusion initiatives, particularly in relation to race.

Episode 1: Demystifying bias in AI

In the first episode Demystifying bias in AI , digital entrepreneur and Chair of Diversity UK, Lopa Patel MBE, talked to Chintan Patel, Chief Technology Officer at Cisco UK & Ireland. The podcast explained artificial intelligence, machine learning and other related technologies in layman’s terms and explored some of the current controversial uses of AI in profiling, surveillance and security and discussed issues of how bias creeps into AI.

Episode 2: AI as the Inventor

In the second episode AI as the Inventor, we hope to examine some of the issues of AI and intellectual property, particularly AI being recognised as the inventor. To support the use of AI technologies, businesses and individuals need to be able to realise commercial values from AI technologies. Are our IP regimes sufficiently robust to allow this and if not, what are the moral and ethical implications of changing our legal frameworks? This podcast will address 3 main questions:

  1. Should patent law allow AI to be identified as the sole or joint inventor?
  2. Is there a moral case for recognising AI as an inventor in a patent?
  3. Who is liable when AI infringes a patent, particularly when this action could not have been predicted by a human?

Speakers in this episode include Lopa Patel MBE, Chair – Diversity UK (moderator);
Rafie Faruq, Co-founder & CEO – Genie.AI; Dr Ros Lynch, Copyright and IP Enforcement Director – IPO and Gary Stewart, Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder – The Nest.
