Nominations open for the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2016 list

Nominations have opened for the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2016 list, published by Diversity UK in association with KMPG High Growth Technology Group and accelerator Wayra. The inaugural list, launched last year during London Technology Week, saw ebookers.com founder Dinesh Dhamija honoured with the Chairman’s Award. This year the scope of nominations has been extended to include East Asians, South Asians and South-East Asians working in the digital and tech industries in Britain. Nominees must also be primarily resident in the UK. “Although this is principally a list for those working in the technology sector, we have also widened the scope to include those working in business-to-business technology services industries,” said list curator Lopa Patel, Founder & CEO of Diversity UK.

The purpose of the list is to celebrate the contribution made by British Asians to this country’s digital economy.  The aim is to address the issue of “invisibility” of Britain’s ethnic minority individuals at senior management level in the corporate world and to showcase a sector in which such individuals are “punching above their weight”.”

The launch event recognised the Top 5 individuals in the five categories of Digital Influencers, Investors, Social Entrepreneurs, Start-Ups and Women.  Among those recognised were Funding Circle Co-Founder & CEO, Samir Desai CBE; Founder & CEO of Just Giving, Dame Zarine Kharas; Co-founder of MixCloud, NIkhil Shah and Co-Founder of Second Home, Rohan Silva. “For the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2016 list, the category of Digital Influencers has been replaced by Business-to-Business (B2B), but the objective is still to highlight the enormous contribution that Asians in tech are making to the UK’s economy”.

The Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2016 list is part curated and part nominated – nominations close at midnight on 15th May 2016 – with a panel of nine judges shortlisting the hundred individuals for the list which will be launched on Monday 13th June 2016 in Central London. Among this year’s judges are Suneel Bakhshi, Group Chief Executive Officer of LCH Clearnet (part of the London Stock Exchange Group); Business mentor & coach Stuart Hillston who was recognised in the Maserati 100 list 2016 and Maggie Berry, Executive Director for Europe at WEConnect International, among others.

Nominations close at midnight on 15th May 2016.
