Faisal Ghani
Dr Faisal Ghani is CEO & Founder of SolarisKit which is a cleantech startup behind the world’s first flat-packable solar thermal collector, a device which aims to provide affordable clean energy to the global south and other markets. SolarisKit received its first big boost winning Scotland’s national Converge Impact Challenge in 2019 providing £20,000 of funding and access to greater access to Scotland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Further funding from Innovate UK (£242K) has been awarded to SolarisKit with project partners Heriot-Watt University and the Challenges Group to further develop the collector and carry out the installation of collectors in Rwanda. Faisal is a chartered mechanical engineer with over 15 years of experience in the solar energy field. He studied mechanical engineering at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia and then went on to work for a leading manufacturer of solar energy systems. After completing his PhD and spending several years in academia, in 2019 Faisal realised that an impact focused business was the best way to tackle the climate emergency. Faisal is a previous recipient of Scotland’s prestigious Converge Impact Challenge Award, Kerr McGregor award for solar innovation, and winner of the 2020 MSDUK Innovation Challenge (Social Innovation category). He is currently an Enterprise Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
