Kevin Shakesheff
Professor Kevin Shakesheff is the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, Enterprise and Scholarship at The Open University and Chair of the National Centre for Replacement, Refinement and Reduction (NC3Rs). He is an expert in regenerative medicine and biologic therapies, having directed the UK Regenerative Medicine Platform for Acellular Materials, with over 350 publications and 13 patent families arising from his research. After qualifying as a pharmacist and completing a PhD in Advanced Drug Delivery Systems he began his independent research career under a NATO Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He returned to the UK under an EPSRC Advanced Fellowship and became a Professor at the University of Nottingham in 2002. His invention of new biomaterials for tissue regeneration led to the formation of the UK biotech company Locate Bio Ltd. He was a Board Director of Biocity Ltd for four years until its acquisition by Harrison Street and Trinity IM to form the We are Pioneer Group.
