Dr. Lewis Liu co-founded Eigen Technologies, a research-driven AI company specializing in NLP for businesses in finance, law, and professional services, in late 2014. Since co-founding Eigen, Lewis has built the company into a business that employs over 100 people in both London and New York and serves over 25% of the G-SIB financial institutions and tackles the fundamental problems of enterprise data with a unique technology. Lewis has raised $60m in funding from leading investors Temasek, Goldman Sachs Growth Equity, Lakestar, Dawn Capital, and ING Ventures to support Eigen’s mission to enable businesses to transform text into structured data accurately and at scale.

Lewis started his career as a consultant at McKinsey & Company in London, where he specialized in financial institutions, energy, and corporate finance. He then founded and led the Quantitative Finance & Strategies Division for Aleron Partners LLP, a boutique private equity advisory firm. He is a former Senior Advisor to Linklaters LLP, where he co-founded the Tactical Opportunities Group, a deal origination team. 

He holds a Doctorate in Atomic & Laser Physics from the University of Oxford. During his studies at Oxford, Lewis invented a new class of X-ray laser. The physics behind this invention was later abstracted into Eigen's core technology. Lewis received Harvard’s first Joint Bachelor’s in Physics and Fine Arts, as well as a Master’s in Theoretical Physics, during which he conducted antihydrogen research at CERN.
