Poonam Malik
Dr Poonam Malik is an entrepreneurial business strategist, Life Sciences leader and an investor in Innovation. She is Chairperson, Co-Founder and Board Director of Microplate Dx Ltd, a multi-award winning MedTech Company, aiming to help tackle the global challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) with their platform technology. A GlobalScot, Poonam, is a Scottish Enterprise (SE) Board member, which is Scotland's National Economic Development Agency and is Sustainability/NetZero/Climate Transformation and equitable opportunities Champion on the SE board. She is also Board Member/NE Director of Skills Development Scotland (SDS), which is Scotland's National Skills Agency- skills and talent being key focus and priority for all businesses in today's competitive environment.
As Head of Investments at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Dr Malik held oversight of strategic leadership of the university's enhanced investments from multiple funds, investing multi-million pounds for equity into startups, spinouts, and spinin venture companies emerging from entrepreneurial and commercialisation activities of the staff, students and alumni and also held accountability for the management of their portfolio of >35 investee companies.
Poonam is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE) and the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB). She sits on many National Committees, advises policymakers, mentors and coaches business leaders. Dr Malik is recipient of several awards including the recently bestowed honour of the 'Business Woman of the Year 2023' at the Scottish Asian Business Awards for all the work she has done within the technology sectors and industry. Poonam holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences/Virology from the University of Glasgow, UK, an MBA (with Distinction) in 'Strategy and Leadership' from the University of Edinburgh Business School UK, a Masters (MSc) degree in Biotechnology and a Bachelors (BSc) in Chemistry & Zoology from India.
