Subramanian Ramamoorthy
Subramanian Ramamoorthy is the Scientific Advisor (previously Vice President Prediction and Motion Planning) at FiveAI, a UK-based startup company focussed on developing a technology stack for autonomous vehicles. FiveAI has raised a total of $78.7 million in funding over 3 rounds. Their latest funding of £41 million was raised on Mar 3, 2020 from a Series B round led by Direct Line Insurance, Sistema VC and Trustbridge Partners. In 2022, Five was acquired by Robert Bosch GmbH.
Subramanian is also a Professor of Robot Learning and Autonomy in the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, where he has been on the faculty since 2007. Since January 2021, he has also been the Director of Institute of Perception, Action and Behaviour at the University. He received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 2007. He has been an elected Member of the Young Academy of Scotland at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, and a Visiting Professor at Stanford University and the University of Rome La Sapienza. His research focus is on robot learning and decision-making under uncertainty, with particular emphasis on achieving safe and robust autonomy in human-centred environments.
