UKIBC explores global healthcare issues with Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw

The Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt, past Chair of the UK India Business Council, a former Secretary of State for Health and currently Chair of the NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board and Richard Heald OBE, current Chair, jointly hosted a special UKIBC Chair’s Dinner on Monday 3 June 2024 with principal guest, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson at Biocon, to explore global healthcare issues.

Ms Mazumdar-Shaw is one of India’s leading business people and an entrepreneur as well as a significant philanthropist. She founded Biocon in 1978. Biocon has since grown into India’s largest biopharmaceutical company manufacturing generic active pharmaceutical ingredients that are sold in approximately 120 countries, including the United States and Europe. Quoted on the Bombay Stock Exchange it has a market cap of Rps365bn. The focus of the discussion was healthcare – one of UKIBC’s key focus sectors – including gender equity in the health and care workforce, within science, R&D and in healthcare itself, with a unique opportunity for guests to have insightful conversations on this fast-moving and vital sector.
