BAME Role Models sought to inspire schoolchildren

BAME Role Models sought to inspire schoolchildren

The next generation of BAME role models, particularly those from tech industries, are being sought by Success at School to inspire Britain’s schoolchildren. Founded by Mitesh Bhimjiyani in 2013, Success at School is a national careers website for students aged 11-19. Mitesh has won a place on the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech list for the past two years for creating the easy-to-use, information-packed online careers tool and he now hopes to showcase others from the list too.

We asked Mitesh what he thought and here’s what he said: “I’m delighted to have made the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech list again. There are some incredible names on the list and I feel privileged to be amongst them. We’ve worked really hard at Success at School and I’m glad our efforts to help young people are being recognised. I’m hoping this recognition helps us reach more young people to help them make better decisions about their future.”

From time to time we interview people to ask their story on how they got to where they are, so it gives young people some context and I hope that my fellow nominees on the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech list can be encouraged to share their career paths with our users,” added Mitesh, “the interview is a brief 60-second one via email, and we can follow up with a phone call too. A lot of young people are unclear about how to enter the tech sector, particularly the skills and experience necessary, and I hope that these amazing role models can help break down some of these barriers, and dispel some of the myths!

Mitesh set up Success at School back in 2013 after leaving the world of investment banking to pursue something he really believed in – career opportunities for young people. In the last 12 months, the site has received over 1 million visits from young people, careers advisors and teachers looking for no-nonsense advice about careers, employers and universities. Students can also build their CV and skills profile using our online careers platform. Success at School is recommended by the National Careers Service and has been praised by the Department for Education.
