BGTA, the Chinese corporate-backed accelerator that is committed to fostering the development of a global tech and investment ecosystem is expanding to Europe, connecting the UK, EU and China through investment in technology.

Europe accounts for 20% of global R&D investment

The UK tech-sector is undoubtedly leading in many ways, however Europe as a whole can not be overlooked when it comes to technology and investments. With only 7% of the world’s population, Europe accounts for 20% of global R&D investment, produces one third of all high-quality scientific publications, and holds a world leading position in industrial sectors.

These are formidable figures and further to that, EU countries are encouraged to invest 3% of their GDP in R&D by 2020 – this is expected to create 3.7 million jobs and increase the EU’s annual GDP by nearly €800 billion,” said Helen Wang, CEO at BGTA Accelerator.

The European Union has placed innovation at the heart of the EU’s strategy, which is why BGTA has taken the decision to expand its geographical footprint in Europe and will be collaborating with the European Business Angels Network (EBAN) on three main fronts:

  • Jointly Establish Investment Summits in China
  • Investment Collaboration
  • Jointly Organise Professional Training Programme

EBAN is the pan-European representative for early stage investors, gathering over 150 member organizations more than 50 countries today. EBAN represents a sector estimated to invest 7.5 billion Euros a year and playing a vital role in Europe’s future, notably in the funding of SMEs!”
