Innovators showcased at the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2023
Four innovators were invited to showcase their ventures at the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2023 list launch by equality charity Diversity UK, in association with law firm Eversheds Sutherland and Cambridge-based Biorbyt, one of Europe’s largest bio-reagents supplier. The event took place in Central London on Wednesday 5 July 2023 and simultaneously saw the release of the Top 100 Asian Stars in UK Tech 2023 list. Now in its ninth year, the list celebrates the outstanding contribution made by British Asians to this country’s digital economy.
The tech showcase is the sixth undertaken by Diversity UK, for an audience which comprised 120 people who heard pitches from:
Shefali Bohra, Co-Founder of Dotplot, a breast health monitoring tool designed to provide month-by-month comparisons of breast tissue, helping to flag abnormalities as soon as possible as part of self-checking by using sensing technology to build a map of the user’s chest.
Reedah El-Saie, Founder & CEO of multi-award winning EdTech startup Brainspark Games, building an eduverse of culturally inclusive, 3-D immersive educational mobile games, aligned with the British national curriculum, for 7-13 year olds.
Sushma Shankar the Co-Founder & CEO of Deep Planet, which addresses environmental risk using satellite imagery with the aim is to help agricultural businesses, supply chain companies and growers to gain new and unbiased insights from satellite data while supporting sustainability in their operations.
Vishal Kumar, Co-Founder & CEO at Alice Camera, an AI camera that works with your smartphone to shoot and share better content in a fraction of the time. Founded in 2020, Alice Camera is a computational photography start-up building a novel AI camera for content creators, streamers and live events.
Tech Showcase Innovators 2023
The audiences, which included ten entrepreneurship ecosystem builders underpinning the tech sector across the UK were able to question the founders and offer their advice to help these startups reach scale.
Lopa Patel MBE, Chair or Diversity UK said; “It was fascinating to hear the ingenuity and innovative approaches these founders have taken in tackling some of the challenges society faces; from how to diagnose breast cancer early to how to take better video and images on your smartphone. I was fascinated by the use of satellite imagery in tackling climate change in relation to helping farmers increase yields – from wine growers to animal feed in agriculture, this is an important aspect of feeding the world. And, of course, the world of tomorrow is in the hands of the digital natives, like those in school today, so it is vital that we can engage, entertain and educate the next generation.
I was pleased that all the startup founders really knew their business models, finances and markets and handled the audience’s questions with skills and expertise. Moderating this year’s tech showcase was a real pleasure”.
