The Tech Nation 2025 report launched at London Tech Week

Launched today at London Tech Week, this 10th anniversary edition of Tech Nation’s ‘The State of The Nation Report’ on UK Tech is replete with headline-making milestones.

In just the first half of 2025, startups raised $7B in VC investment, with companies reaching unicorn status faster than ever. The UK tech sector now boasts a combined valuation of $1.2 trillion – making it Europe’s largest, and more than twice the size of Germany and France combined.

The State of The Nation report reveals:

🇬🇧 The UK has produced 163 unicorns and 90% are staying to scale on home soil

🦄 One in four UK unicorns are fintech or enterprise SaaS companies

📈 The sector is growing at a 12.5% CAGR, despite global funding pressures

But while the numbers are strong, the message from founders is even stronger: progress won’t sustain itself. Founders and investors are calling for urgent action. From government-backed funds and pension reform to stronger tax incentives, all to unlock growth and scale ambition. Britain has the potential to lead the next era of tech, but it will take collective effort across the entire ecosystem to make it happen.
